Visa doubles business in India

Visa International has more than doubled its sales volume in India for the four quarters ended June 30, while its global business for the first time touched $255 billion.

Visa's global business grew by 27 per cent, while the Asia Pacific region clocked 30 per cent growth aided by over 100 per cent growth in countries like India and Thailand.

"This year, we have seen significant growth from markets like Taiwan (69 per cent) as well as Thailand and India, which show over 100 per cent growth," Visa Asia-Pacific general manager Michael Cannon said.

Commercial sales volume, which is the aggregate of the value of all purchases and cash withdrawals made with visa commercial payment solutions, touched $255 billion globally and $46 billion in Asia Pacific region.

"While it took 10 years for Visa and our members to reach $100 billion mark and three years to $200 billion, we are rapid on our way to the global 300 billion dollars miles one in commercial volume in just over a year," Cannon said.

In October 2004, Visa had reached the $200 billion mark globally and 35 billion mark in Asia Pacific, in terms of commercial sales volume.

Almost all the regions where Visa has a presence have recorded double digit growth in commercial sales volume during the year, with majority of the regions showing 20 per cent growth rate.
